Under 13s Jaguars vs Wyvern – 10th Sept 2023

The first game of the season for the Jaguars and we started with a trip to Wyvern.

The game started in a rain shower which was quite refreshing but made the pitch super fast.

We started well and looked very confident and capable of competing after a step up in leagues.

The back 4 were working really well as a unit with Thomas and Glyn winning the midfield battle.

We played some good composed football but just couldn’t really find a way through. The through balls to use our quick strikers were just skidding straight through to the keeper.

Both defences were on top in a stalemate of a first half.

The Jaguars came flying out of the blocks and the half time message from the coaches was to get more shots away.

Within the first 3 minutes of the half we had had 3 shots on goal with Harry and Lloyd coming close.

Not too long after a lovely move put Lloyd through and he rattled the post with a powerful shot.

Things were looking really good.

We had an attacking corner but the ball bobbled out to a Wyvern player. The counter attack was on. We didn’t manage the attack well and the ball found it’s way to a Wyvern player on the edge of our area. Credit to the player as he curled the ball over Rowan into the top corner.

The game opened up after this and the offence from both teams started to come more into play.

Wyvern created a lot more and forced 3 great saves from Rowan. One in particular was world class as he tipped onto the cross bar from the top corner.

The sun came out and the pitch started to dry. This meant the ball wasn’t quite as skiddy and our pacey strikers were getting some success.

Theo came on with the instruction of getting us an equaliser. He did just that.

He used his blistering pace down the right to get into the area. He kept calm and pulled the ball back to James who finished superbly into the bottom corner.

This was exactly what we deserved as we had worked so hard.

Some fantastic individual performances today but it was an all round cracking team performance which at times looked like a 442 football machine.

Was brilliant at left back and played the position really well. Covering for his centre back and supporting his winger. As usual, made a difference when given a chance up front.

Rowan

Some miracle saves which kept us in it. The top corner one will live in my memory. Also, what a beautiful kit!!

Lloyd

Caused Wyvern so many problems with his dribbling and was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet. What pleased me most though was how well Lloyd did defensively today.

PoTD though was Martin.

A huge performance at the back for us today. Led by example and won every single challenge that came his way. Fitted in to the Jaguar way and played the ball out from the back to get attacks started. He and Eddie looked like a special partnership.

Well done Jaguars we all thoroughly enjoyed watching that game today. Roll on next Sunday!! 👏👏👏
